Students and staff members of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who were kidnapped by bandits in February, have regained their freedom after seven months in captivity.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the release on Monday via X, noting that security forces played a key role in securing their freedom.

The victims were abducted during an attack in the Gusau area earlier this year. Although details surrounding their release remain unclear, the news has brought immense relief to their families and the university community, who anxiously awaited their safe return.

Zagazola also confirmed that the abducted individuals were in good health following their extended time in captivity.

In a separate incident in September 2023, bandits attacked off-campus student residences in the Sabon Gida area, abducting several students, primarily female, during an early morning raid.
