Enugu State has attracted over N300 billion in investment commitments in just three months, Governor Peter Mbah announced.
This milestone is a major boost to the state’s efforts to strengthen its economy.
Governor Mbah made this announcement during his speech at the 2024 Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion. The news was also shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
“In just three months, we’ve secured over N300 billion in commitments, revitalising key industries and creating jobs. From assembling trucks locally to reviving the long-dormant Sunrise Flour Mills, we are laying the foundation for a robust and diversified economy,” said Governor Mbah.
One of the major deals the governor highlighted was a N40 billion agreement with Jelfah Nigeria Limited to bring back Sunrise Flour Mills, which has been inactive for years. The deal involves Jelfah Nigeria Limited taking a 60% stake in the mill, with N24 billion going into revitalizing the facility and the remaining N2 billion benefiting the state directly.
The governor also shared the state’s new partnership with a Danish company to establish a tractor assembly plant. This initiative aims to produce 300 tractors by the end of 2024, with plans to expand to 1,000 tractors in 2025.
In addition to economic growth, Governor Mbah’s administration is focusing on security. A new surveillance platform combining human and artificial intelligence will be launched to monitor the streets and ensure the safety of residents.
The governor also revealed that 33% of the 2024 budget is allocated to education. The Smart Green Schools initiative, part of this allocation, will equip students with skills for the digital age.
Governor Mbah emphasized that these efforts are all part of his administration’s broader goal of creating a livable and prosperous environment for the people of Enugu.
“We are committed to making Enugu a better place, improving infrastructure, and ensuring our citizens have the opportunities and safety they deserve,” he added.
