President Bola Tinubu has praised Ms. Rena Wakama, coach of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, for being named the best women’s basketball coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Under Wakama’s leadership, the D’Tigress achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarterfinals at the Olympics.

In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu said, “The recognition of Ms. Wakama, 32, by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), highlights her excellent leadership skills and dedication to excellence.”

The President also praised the entire team and everyone involved in the team’s success. He urged them to continue their hard work and not to be discouraged. “Winning trophies and medals is important, but the values of good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice shown by our athletes are even more significant,” he said.

President Tinubu extended his thanks to the Nigerian team and wished them continued success in their future endeavors.
