The Imo State Police Command is taking strong action against officers involved in unprofessional conduct, following a viral video showing a police officer extorting money from motorists.
The State Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, addressed the issue in response to the video, which caught Inspector Isong Osudueh extorting money from motorists along the Owerri-Onitsha express road. Inspector Osudueh is attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit in Owerri.
In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, on behalf of the Commissioner, it was confirmed that Inspector Osudueh will be demoted after the necessary orderly room proceedings by the police disciplinary committee. The officer in charge of the unit has also been summoned for an official query due to a lack of supervision.
“The disciplinary actions taken against the erring officer underscore the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel, while effectively discharging its lawful duties and entrenching public trust and confidence,” ASP Okoye stated.
Okoye emphasized that the Imo State Police Command, under Commissioner Danjuma’s leadership, is determined to eliminate any embarrassing actions by its officers.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reiterates that the Command under his watch will not condone any act of extortion or misconduct by its personnel and warns that any supervisory officer who fails to carry out his oversight duties will be severely sanctioned,” he added.
