May Day: Akpabio assures workers of improved welfare
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of Nigerian workers, promising a living wage and better working conditions in collaboration with the government’s executive arm.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of the 2024 May Day celebration, lauding their patriotism, hard work, resilience, and dedication to duty.
“A Nigerian worker is noted for his patriotism, hard work, resilience, and dedication to duty,” Akpabio emphasized. “Everywhere you go, the Nigerian worker’s spirit resonates profoundly.”
Addressing this year’s theme, “Ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate,” Akpabio assured that the National Assembly, under his leadership, is committed to enhancing working conditions, stating, “No Nigerian worker will again be allowed to work under inhuman conditions. We will do everything to give you the best because you deserve the best.”
He reiterated the commitment of the 10th National Assembly to enact legislation aimed at safeguarding the interests of Nigerian workers, fostering conducive workplace environments, and ensuring fair compensation.
“On behalf of the Senate, the entire National Assembly, and my family, I wish to extend felicitations to Nigerian workers on this International Labour Day,” Akpabio affirmed. “We are celebrating patriotism, hard work, commitment, and dedication. Your sacrifices will never go in vain.”
Assuring workers that tough times will be temporary, he expressed confidence that brighter days lie ahead, reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting and uplifting the Nigerian workforce.
