Court refuses to drop N4bn fraud charges against ex-Anambra gov
A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an appeal by former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, challenging the authority of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to try him.
Obiano, facing trial since January 24 on nine counts of alleged N4 billion theft, filed a preliminary objection through his lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, arguing that the EFCC lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute him. He also called for the dismissal of the charges, labeling them as an abuse of court process and claiming that there was no prima facie case against him.
However, in a ruling on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo deemed the application without merit and ordered its dismissal.
