NDDC connects sub-station to power five Ondo LGs
The Niger Delta Development Commission has successfully constructed and connected a 132/33kv electricity substation in Ode-Erinje, located in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, to the national grid.
The Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, Victor Antai, hailed the completion of the substation during an inspection, highlighting its significance in enhancing economic activities and improving living conditions in Ondo State.
“This power substation is a significant project that aligns with our mandate to improve infrastructure and development in the Niger Delta region,” Antai remarked.
He emphasized the commitment of NDDC to providing electricity to oil-producing communities, particularly those in Ondo South Senatorial District, which have endured a lack of electricity for over 15 years.
Antai revealed plans to inaugurate the substation in April, expressing gratitude to the President and the NDDC Governing Board for prioritizing projects that positively impact people’s lives.
The project is expected to provide electricity to over 2,000 communities across five local government areas in Ondo State’s oil-producing region, effectively ending years of darkness in these areas.
Benson Obayelu, speaking on behalf of the contracting firm, outlined the scope of the project, which includes the installation of transmission lines and transformers to facilitate the distribution of electricity.
Acting National Chairman of TROMPCON, Dr. Obafemi Ogbaro, and Ondo State Representative on the NDDC Board, Otito Atikase, both emphasized the crucial importance of access to electricity for economic development and improved quality of life in the region.
In a related development, the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, announced that the completed substation would soon be inaugurated and handed over to the Transmission Company of Nigeria for operational management.
