Police probe into alleged drowning of military cadet in Abia hotel
The Abia State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the reported drowning of an Air Force personnel at a prominent hotel in Umuahia, the state capital.
Police Public Relations Officer, Moureen Chinaka, informed Saturday Vanguard that the Central Police Station in Umuahia had been alerted to the incident and that an investigation is underway.
“Our attention has been drawn to the incident, and we are taking it very seriously,” stated Chinaka.
During a visit by our correspondent to the hotel in question, the receptionist declined to provide any comments regarding the matter. In response to inquiries about the manager, the receptionist mentioned that the entire management team was out conducting their own investigation and advised our correspondent to return the following day.
According to reports circulating on social media, an Air Force cadet, whose identity has been withheld, tragically lost his life in the hotel’s swimming pool last Tuesday. An anonymous source revealed that the cadet had visited the facility to swim at a time when the pool was reportedly under renovation.
The lifeless body of the cadet was reportedly retrieved by personnel from the Abia State Fire Service and promptly transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, where he was pronounced dead.
