Gov Otu offers job to corps member for honoring father in viral video
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has offered automatic employment into the state civil service to former corps member Miss Arit Anam for honoring her father’s efforts to support her education.
Anam, who recently completed her one-year mandatory national service with the National Youth Service Corps, gained attention after a video went viral showing her returning to her father’s thatch house in their village.
In the video, Anam marched towards her father, giving him a military salute she learned during her time at the NYSC orientation camp. This gesture was her way of expressing gratitude to her father for supporting her education despite his limited financial means.
Upon seeing the viral video, Governor Otu dispatched a delegation to Anam’s residence in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, to verify the story. After confirming the authenticity of the video and the background of Anam’s family, Governor Otu decided to grant her automatic employment in the state civil service.
Anam, a graduate of Mass Communication from Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, expressed her gratitude for the gesture from both Governor Otu and Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, who had built a three-bedroom flat for her father. She urged young people not to overlook their family background and cultural values.
Governor Otu also gave Anam the freedom to choose which ministry, department, or agency she would like to work with within the state civil service, emphasizing the importance of encouraging young people to appreciate and honor their families.
