Renowned British author J.K. Rowling has been reported to the Northumbria Police by transgender broadcaster India Willoughby, who accuses Rowling of repeatedly misgendering her online. Willoughby, a former “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant, claims that despite her legal recognition as a woman, Rowling consistently refers to her as a man.

In an interview with Byline TV, Willoughby asserts that J.K. Rowling’s alleged misgendering could constitute a crime under the U.K.’s Equalities Act and Gender Recognition Act. She also suggests that the actions might qualify as a hate crime or a case of malicious communications.

Variety reports that Northumbria Police are prepared to discuss the matter with Rowling. However, there is no confirmation on whether Rowling will cooperate with the authorities.

In response, J.K. Rowling has fired back, stating that she consulted with a lawyer who believes she has a strong case against Willoughby for defamation. Rowling is also contemplating legal action, citing potential online harassment.

Aware of the gravity of the situation, Rowling remarks, “I’ll simply have to explain to the police that, in my view, India is a classic example of the male narcissist who lives in a state of perpetual rage that he can’t compel women to take him at his own valuation.”

This incident adds to the controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling’s stance on transgender issues, which has drawn criticism and accusations of trans-exclusionary views. Some members of the “Harry Potter” cast have distanced themselves from Rowling, labeling her as a bigot.

Despite the backlash, J.K. Rowling has remained steadfast in her opinions, emphasizing that she is unconcerned about how the world will remember her, stating, “I’ll be dead.”
