The coach of the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, thas tendered his resignation after guiding the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to Cote D’ivoire.
Peseiro’s contract with the Super Eagles concluded in February, and despite ongoing negotiations with the Nigeria Football Federation for a possible renewal, he has decided to step down.
In a statement posted on his X account, Peseiro expressed his gratitude and reflected on his time with the team.
He said, “Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.”
He extended his appreciation to key figures in the NFF, including Sir Amaju Pinnick, President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and Secretary Dayo Enebi.
Peseiro also thanked the entire staff and, most importantly, the players, stating that leading them had been a great pleasure.
