The Abia State government has suspended the traditional ruler of Azumini Ndoki in Ukwa East LGA, Eze Edward Ebere Eule, for alleged misconduct. The suspension comes as part of the government’s efforts to address concerns regarding the behavior of some traditional rulers in the state.
Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, revealed that the suspension is for a duration of 30 days. The decision is based on recommendations from a Board of Inquiry set up by the state government to investigate allegations of misconduct by certain traditional rulers.
Nwachukwu emphasized that the monarch’s suspension would only be lifted once he complies with the recommendations of the Board of Inquiry within the specified timeframe. Additionally, the traditional ruler has been instructed to provide an account of N8 million in community electricity funds reportedly deposited in a bank account.
In a press release, Nwachukwu stated, “The monarch was also ordered by the Board of Inquiry to immediately revoke the dissolution of unions, associations, or organizations which he allegedly carried out without due process.”
This suspension follows a similar incident in January 2024 when the traditional ruler of Ibom Isii in Arochukwu LGA, Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu, was removed from office based on misconduct allegations. The State government continues to demonstrate its commitment to upholding accountability and due process among traditional rulers to ensure effective governance and community well-being.
