Injured Liverpool star Jota out for ‘months’, Klopp confirms
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that forward Diogo Jota is set for an extended period on the sidelines following a knee injury sustained during the win against Brentford on Saturday.
Jota, who was carried off on a stretcher just before half-time after a collision with Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, is expected to be out for “months,” according to Klopp.
“With Diogo it will obviously take months,” said Klopp, speaking before his side play Luton in the Premier League on Wednesday.
The injury comes as a blow to Liverpool’s squad dynamics as they prepare to face Luton in the Premier League on Wednesday.
While reports from Portugal suggest Jota may be sidelined for approximately two months, there is optimism that he could return before the conclusion of the season and ahead of Euro 2024 in the summer.
Expressing his determination to recover swiftly, Jota, who recently earned the January player of the month award, conveyed his resolve on social media.
In addition to Jota’s setback, Liverpool faces further injury concerns. Midfielder Curtis Jones sustained a bone ligament injury during the Brentford game, while goalkeeper Alisson Becker and striker Darwin Nunez faced fitness issues.
Klopp confirmed Alisson’s muscle injury and indicated uncertainty regarding his return, along with Jones, who will miss the upcoming match against Luton.
Liverpool’s injury woes extend to defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara, who are currently sidelined with knee, hamstring, and muscle problems, respectively.
Klopp acknowledged the challenges posed by these absences and provided updates on the ongoing recovery processes for Alexander-Arnold and Szoboszlai.
