Police nab notorious Abuja kidnap kingpin
Operatives from the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command apprehended one of the most wanted and dangerous kidnapping kingpins operating in Abuja and its environs marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime in the Federal Capital Territory.
The captured kingpin, identified as Saidu Abubakar, had been on the run along with two other notorious kidnappers following a narrow escape during a raid operation by the Special Intervention Squad, the IRT, and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Command.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson of the FCT Command, the arrest of the wanted kingpin occurred during a raid conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on two kidnappers’ camps located on the border between Nasarawa and Abuja, near the Kuje area council.
“In the course of the raid, the police dismantled the camps and apprehended one Saidu Abdulkadir, also known as Dahiru Adamu, who serves as the gang leader and is one of the wanted suspects of the kidnapping syndicate previously paraded by the Police Command on 14th February 2024,” stated SP Josephine Adeh.
The operation was not without resistance, as the bandits opened fire on the police upon their arrival, resulting in an intense gun battle. However, the police ultimately prevailed, overpowering the criminals and securing the area.
As a result of the successful operation, two individuals, Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar, who had been abducted from Kwaita village via Pegi district of Kuje area council, were rescued unharmed.
Additionally, the suspect responsible for orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of Mr. Sunday Yahaya Zakwai, the district head of Ketti village, was apprehended.
While efforts are ongoing to capture the other wanted suspects who remain at large, Commissioner of Police, Benneth Chinedum Igweh, issued a stern warning to criminals in the FCT, emphasizing that there would be no sanctuary for them.
