Zulum declares one-day fasting, prayers over economic hardship
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called upon the citizens of the state to observe a day of fasting and offer special prayers on Monday, seeking divine intervention to address the current hardships caused by inflation.
In a broadcast to the people of the state, Governor Zulum urged traditional rulers, clerics, and citizens alike to participate in a one-day voluntary fast to pray for peace, prosperity, and the overall development of the state.
Expressing his concern over the recent challenges faced by citizens, particularly the high cost of food items, Governor Zulum assured the populace that decisive measures were being taken to mitigate the issue.
“We are deeply troubled by the recent hardships faced by our citizens, particularly the high cost of food items. I understand the burden that this places on families and individuals, and I want to assure you that we are taking decisive steps to alleviate this issue,” Governor Zulum stated.
He highlighted the state government’s focus on revitalizing agriculture to increase food production and reduce dependence on food palliatives. Efforts include investing in modern farming techniques, supporting local farmers, and incentivizing agricultural innovation to create sustainable livelihoods for the people.
Governor Zulum commended the Federal Government for its continued support in the fight against insurgency and the development of the state.
He also expressed gratitude to security forces and volunteers for their sacrifices in safeguarding lives and ensuring peace and prosperity.
“In addition to our efforts in agriculture, we are also working on increasing the distribution of palliatives, especially for residents in Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere.
“As your governor, I want to assure you that we will continue to improve healthcare service delivery, education, and water supply,” Zulum said.
He lamented the recent incidents of mines on major roads in the state, adding that those engaged in the dastardly attempt to sabotage the government would not succeed,” he said.
