Delta govt distributes maize to support poultry farmers amid feed hike
The Delta State Government has initiated the distribution of 7,660 bags of maize to members of the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria within the state in order to address the challenges posed by the increasing costs of producing poultry feeds.
During the distribution event held at the ADP office in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Council, Chief Jaro Egbo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport and Secretary of the State Palliatives Committee, highlighted the government’s commitment to assisting poultry farmers.
He emphasized that the gesture aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s agenda to support agricultural endeavors and alleviate the high cost of living by promoting local production.
Egbo affirmed that the distribution aims to bolster agricultural productivity within the state, enabling Delta to compete favorably at the national level.
“A total of 528 tonnes of maize are to be distributed to poultry farmers in the state out of which we are releasing 7,660 bags, which is about 388 tonnes to the poultry farmers until we sort out other grey areas to see whether those farms exist or not,” he said.
Furthermore, Egbo disclosed that previous distributions included bags of rice, reflecting the government’s broader support for agricultural development.
The Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Agriculture, George Oyefia, emphasized the government’s focus on supporting various commodity associations, including poultry, pig, and fish farmers. He clarified that the current cycle of palliative distribution is tailored specifically for poultry farmers but assured that other sectors would also receive attention in subsequent phases.
