Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has responded to the tragic passing of Access Bank Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe.
Recall that Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and three others, lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the US on Friday night.
Expressing his profound shock at the news, Keyamo revealed that Wigwe had visited his office just a few days prior to his untimely demise.
In a statement shared on X, Keyamo mourned the loss of his friend and neighbor, describing Wigwe’s sudden departure as devastating. He recounted their recent meeting in his office, where they had discussed significant developments for the aviation sector, highlighting Wigwe’s commitment to the industry.
The Minister expressed disbelief and extended his condolences to Wigwe’s family, including his aged parents, sibling, immediate family members, colleagues, and friends across Nigeria.
He also emphasized the profound impact of Wigwe’s loss on the community and prayed for solace during this difficult time.
“The reported tragic loss of my friend, brother and not-far-away neighbour in Lagos, Herbert Wigwe, the co-founder of Access Bank, the CEO of Access Holdings and the founder of Wigwe University, is very devastating.
“He was in my office earlier this week (where we took the pictures below) and actually left my office to fly out of the country and never came back. I am also shocked to learn his wife, son and other friends were involved in this tragedy,” Keyamo wrote on X.
“We were on the verge of announcing something big for the aviation sector, the reason he actually came to the office with his entire team, both from Access and Wigwe University. This is surreal and I am lost for words.
“May Almighty God comfort his aged parents and sibling (who were also my neighbours in Lagos for many years as a very young lawyer in Anthony Village), his immediate family members, his staff, friends across Nigeria and dependents,” he wrote
