AFCON: Teni urges Super Eagles to avenge Grammy loss against S’Africa
Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, has called on the Super Eagles to give their all in the upcoming semi-finals clash against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Teni specifically charged star striker Victor Osimhen and the entire team to secure a victory over South Africa, aiming to avenge the setback suffered by Nigerian musicians at the hands of South African vocalist Tyla during the 66th Grammys.
The Nigerian music contingent, including Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide, faced disappointment at the Grammy Awards, with Tyla emerging as the winner in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category.
In a heartfelt video message, Teni pleaded with the Super Eagles players to turn the tables and redeem their compatriots’ Grammy loss by defeating South Africa in the semifinals at Bouaké’s Stade de la Paix in Cote D’Ivoire.
She expressed her sentiments, saying, “Grammy, there’s a problem. We had many parties. You have killed our groove. South Africa, Tyla’s ‘Water.’ Alright. [Victor] Osimhen, over to you. [Ademola] Lookman, over to you. South Africa, you will dance Amapiano after your AFCON defeat. You killed my groove. Grammy why?”
