Police launch manhunt for suspected vandals in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command has initiated a search for suspected economic saboteurs responsible for damaging an electric High Tension Transmission Line in the Anguwan Kanawa area, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
The police received a report from the Chief Security Officer of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, indicating that on February 1, 2024, at about 2200hrs, a loud sound was heard around the electric High Tension Transmission Line.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, a team of police operatives, including specialized personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemicals Biological Radioactive and Nuclear Unit, was immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the damage was caused by explosives used by suspected economic vandals, resulting in the collapse of a High Tension pole.
The area was cordoned off, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team swept the vicinity, recovering remnant components of Improvised Explosive Devices from the scene.
While condemning the act, CP Auwal Mohammed Musa directed a discreet and full-scale investigation to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
He urged the people of Bauchi to provide useful information to aid the investigation and assured them that the situation was under control.
Musa emphasized the commitment to eliminate criminal activities, particularly those targeting government or private property meant for the welfare of the state’s citizens.
He called for continued collaboration and support from the public to secure lives and property in the state.
