Fulham has secured a loan deal for Broja from Chelsea, involving a loan fee of up to £4 million. However, the fee may decrease to zero after a specified number of appearances.
Fulham successfully completed the deal for Broja just before the deadline, submitting a deal sheet to the Premier League. Broja’s transfer to Fulham was officially announced on Friday.
Broja, who will wear the No. 9 shirt at Fulham, expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, “It feels amazing… I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started, meet the players and manager and play for the fans.”
According to reports from The Athletic, Chelsea was willing to loan out Broja without an option to buy, provided there was a substantial fee and assurances regarding game time.
Despite interest from other clubs like Wolves and AC Milan, Chelsea ultimately reached an agreement with Fulham on Thursday afternoon.
Broja’s start to the 2023-24 season was delayed due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained in December 2022.
He made his first appearance of the campaign in September, scoring twice in 19 appearances for Chelsea.
Having previously played for Southampton on loan, Broja returns to Chelsea after scoring nine goals in 38 matches during the 2021-22 season.
Despite being Chelsea’s only available striker at one point, his role diminished with the return of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku from injury and international duty, respectively. Manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to utilize Cole Palmer as a No. 9 in their recent match against Liverpool.
