FA Cup: Liverpool beat Norwich 5-2 to advance to fifth round
Liverpool advances to the fifth round of the FA Cup following a resounding 5-2 victory over a determined Norwich side at Anfield.
The match, which marked Liverpool’s first outing since the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure, was charged with emotion as fans displayed banners commemorating the German manager’s numerous accomplishments.
Liverpool took charge from the outset, displaying Klopp’s trademark high-pressure style.
Curtis Jones opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game, volleying James McConnell’s cross into the net. However, Norwich swiftly responded, with Ben Gibson nodding in Gabriel Sara’s corner to level the score.
Undeterred, Liverpool regained the lead shortly after, courtesy of Darwin Nunez’s clinical finish inside the box.
The home side continued to assert their dominance after the break, as Dioga Jota capitalized on a defensive error by Gibson to extend Liverpool’s lead. Substitute Virgil van Dijk further bolstered Liverpool’s advantage with a powerful header.
Despite Norwich’s Borja Sainz pulling one back with a spectacular long-range effort, Liverpool remained in control, displaying confidence and energy throughout the match.
Ryan Gravenberch put the finishing touches on Liverpool’s victory with a goal in injury time.
Liverpool’s next opponent in the fifth round will be determined between Watford and Southampton, who played to a 1-1 draw earlier in the day, requiring a replay to decide the winner.
