Japa: Bayero varsity plans salary increment for lectures
Bayero University, Kano plans to address the challenge of lecturers leaving the country, commonly known as the ‘Japa’ syndrome, by implementing strategies to enhance their salary packages.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Abbas, expressed concern about the trend and emphasized the university’s commitment to retaining top-tier educators.
During the 4th College Foundation Day organized by the College of Health Sciences at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Thursday, Abbas stated, “Acknowledging the concerning trend of lecturers leaving the country, we have implemented strategies to enhance their salary packages. Our dedication to retaining and attracting top-tier educators is unwavering, ensuring the continued excellence of our academic programs.”
In addressing financial constraints faced by students, Abbas announced adjustments to registration fees and the introduction of special charges for students of the College.
These measures aim to alleviate some of the financial challenges encountered by students pursuing their education.
Moreover, the Vice-Chancellor revealed plans for the construction of a new hostel at a rural posting site for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences.
This initiative seeks to provide students with a conducive learning environment, supporting their growth and development.
The Provost, Aisha Kuliya Gwarzo, emphasized the college’s active involvement in high-level national and international collaborations.
These collaborations have proven instrumental in securing significant research grants worth millions of dollars, contributing to the overall growth of the college and the university.
