The Bayelsa State Police Command has successfully arrested four suspects allegedly connected to the kidnapping of a 40-year-old businesswoman in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Idu, confirmed the arrest and provided details about the incident.

The victim was reportedly abducted at Opolo community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area on Tuesday evening.

Idu disclosed that among the apprehended suspects is the wife of the alleged mastermind behind the lady’s abduction.

Investigations carried out by the state police command revealed that some of the kidnappers were individuals pursued by the police in Rivers State.

These criminals were tracked down and their hideouts raided around the Isokun area of the state just last week.

According to Idu, the kidnappers resorted to firing several gunshots before forcibly taking the victim away in their vehicle.

He stated, “We have arrested the first layer of those who participated in the kidnap. The girlfriend to the mastermind was arrested.”

The Commissioner also linked a bout of youth unrest in Biogbolo-Epie in the same Yenagoa LGA to disorderly conduct attributed to some suspects involved in the businesswoman’s kidnapping.

Idu reported that the suspicious behavior of certain youths attracted police attention. However, when officers approached them for questioning, some of the individuals became unruly, leading to a mob action against the police officers and resulting in a skirmish.

He explained, “Two persons with strange behaviors were spotted at Biogbolo, and when the police attempted to apprehend them for questioning, it led to the suspects raising their voices and that triggered a mob action in an attempt to disarm the policemen.”

The Commissioner further stated that the enraged crowd also attacked a team from the state-owned Community Safety Corps and attempted to disarm them.

In the ensuing scuffle, a bullet was accidentally discharged, causing injury to one of the individuals in the mob.

The incident created confusion, resulting in a traffic jam around the Green Villa junction in Biogbolo-Epie at the Isaac Boro Expressway for several hours before normalcy was restored.
