Betta Edu: Tinubu orders probe of N585.2m disbursement

President Bola Tinubu has officially called for a thorough investigation into the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation’s activities under the leadership of Betta Edu. 

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the demand for the probe in a statement released on Sunday.

In the statement, Minister Idris emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to unraveling the truth surrounding the alleged payment of funds into a private account by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. 

He reassured the public that the government, led by President Tinubu, is dedicated to transparency, accountability, and the effective allocation of public funds to address the needs of Nigerians.

Quoting President Tinubu’s directive, the statement said, “The President has directed that a thorough and comprehensive investigation be conducted to ascertain the accuracy and validity of the reported details.” It further assured that appropriate action would be taken to address any identified breaches and infractions, aligning with the administration’s commitment to public accountability and due process.

Addressing the concerns raised by the public, Minister Idris urged Nigerians to rely on the Ministry of Information and National Orientation as the primary source for verified information about the actions of the Federal Government. 

He stated, “Only accurate details will be shared with the public,” emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication to providing timely updates to keep Nigerians informed about the progress of the investigation.

Highlighting the need for patience as the inquiry unfolds, Minister Idris reiterated the government’s focus on ensuring a fair and unbiased process. 

He concluded by affirming that the investigation findings would be communicated duly and transparently to the public, underscoring the government’s commitment to accountability and openness.
