One dies in Anambra auto crash
An auto crash involving two vehicles has resulted in the tragic death of a female passenger opposite Ihembosi Junction, Okija along Owerri Road in Anambra State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Awka on Thursday.
Irelewuyi revealed that the preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was likely caused by route violation and speeding.
The vehicles involved were identified as a Nissan commercial bus belonging to Rivers Joy Mass Transit and a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep with an unidentified registration number.
According to the sector commander, eyewitnesses reported that the Nissan Pathfinder Jeep and the Rivers Joy Mass Transit vehicle collided, leading to the bus driver losing control and the vehicle somersaulting.
“A total of 10 persons, comprising four male adults, five female adults, and a male child, were involved in the crash. One female adult was killed, a male adult and a female adult were injured, while the other seven were rescued unhurt,” stated Irelewuyi.
The victims were promptly taken to F.S Kings Hospital, Umuohi, in Ihembosi by the community youths, while the deceased victim was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The FRSC reiterated the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
Investigations into the specific details of the accident are ongoing.
