The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer Shem Obafiaye, famous for the viral “Oga at the top” remark in 2013, has been promoted to the rank of deputy commandant-general.

Obafiaye, who served as the Lagos commandant of the NSCDC, struggled humorously to provide the NSCDC website during a guest appearance on Channels Television.

In a statement released on Thursday, December 14, NSCDC announced the promotion of Obafiaye and two others to the position of deputy commandants general.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, decorated the three officers, including Fasiu Adeyinka, former Kwara commandant, and Raji, former Imo commandant.

NSCDC stated on their X page “Minister of interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo decorates three (3) NSCDC Deputy Commandant General, harps on firm commitment to fulfilling the corps mandate, exemplary leadership & watertight interagency collaborations to enhance national security.”

Tunji-Ojo also tweeted about the promotion, stating, “As the chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, I decorated the three new Deputy Commandants General of the @official_NSCDC today.”

Netizens have since reacted to this news, while some offered congratulatory messages others were not so thrilled about his decoration.

@Patrick35144828 asserted, “Nigeria rewards and elevates morons loyal to them. That’s why we are where we are today; we lack competent people in our system.”

@ABOB61484193 also quipped, “Only in Tinubu government.”

@SuperRLB, exclaimed, “Wow! I’m happy for him.”

@nwa_baka, scartistically stated, “This one doesn’t even know the official website.”

@CalebSRH also joined, “‘My Oga at the top…’ has finally arrived at the top. Congratulations, Sir. 😀😀”

@jimixerxes further stated, “At least he doesn’t need to confirm from his oga at the top anymore 🙏.”

@Johnmar5969656 said, “He is now at the top. Awwwww God is great. Chai what a country.”
