Dapo Abiodun approves appointment 1,000 intern teachers
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has given the green light for the issuance of appointment letters to 1,000 beneficiaries of the Ogun Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel program.
This move comes twelve years after the last batch of teachers was employed in the state. Governor Abiodun, fulfilling a promise made during the World Teachers’ Day celebration on October 5, ensured the absorption of OgunTEACh Interns through permanent appointments.
During the presentation ceremony of appointment letters, Governor Abiodun, represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, highlighted that the selection of successful applicants was based on qualities such as resilience, diligence, commitment, and doggedness demonstrated during their internship period.
“Our governor meant well when he declared emergency in the education sector. Part of his concern was how to ensure better welfare for teachers;
“…including prompt payment of salaries, creating a well conducive teaching and learning environment and injecting of enough teachers into the schools system to jack up the standard,” he said.
The governor also reiterated the commitment of his administration to enhancing the standards of education in the state.
The employment initiative, which involves the addition of 2,000 more interns to the previously employed 2,000, aims to hire a total of 5,000 teachers.
The effort seeks to address the need for a sufficient teaching workforce, alleviate the burden on existing teachers, and facilitate the replacement of retirees and those who have left the country.
Arigbabu commended the new teachers and urged them to uphold integrity, diligence, and commitment in elevating the quality of teaching and learning.
He emphasized the governor’s dedication to improving the welfare of teachers, ensuring timely salary payments, and creating conducive teaching environments.
Chairman of the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, announced that 600 of the newly recruited teachers have been assigned to public junior and senior secondary schools across the state.
