JAMB introduces verbal reasoning tests for Direct Entry candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has revealed its decision to include cognitive and verbal reasoning tests for candidates participating in its Direct Entry examination starting in 2024.
The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, conveyed this information during a virtual meeting with Commissioners of Education from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a special bulletin published by the Board on Monday, Prof. Oloyede emphasized the purpose of the new testing procedure, stating, “As from 2024, JAMB will conduct Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity.”
He clarified that this aptitude test is designed to evaluate candidates’ current cognitive skills, deviating from the traditional subject-based assessments such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, and the like.
According to the Registrar, the aptitude test will cover a range of reasoning aspects, including verbal, abstract, mechanical, and numerical reasoning, as well as data checking and work sampling.
In addition, Prof. Oloyede informed the participants that the Direct Entry registration process would be streamlined to JAMB offices nationwide.
He outlined the mandatory information that DE applicants must provide during registration which includes:
Registration/Matriculation number,
Number of previous schools where the qualification was acquired,
Qualification subjects,
Awarding institution,
Institution attended,
Year of graduation and,
Entrance letters if applicable.
