Kano APC group seeks UN intervention to protect judiciary
A pro-All Progressives Congress group from Kano state, known as the APC Youth Business Community in Kano, has appealed to the United Nations to intervene in the ongoing political crisis in the state, urging the UN to uphold the rule of law and allow the country’s Apex Court to decide the fate of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In a petition submitted at the UN office in Abuja, the APC group accused the New Nigerian People’s Party led administration in Kano of blackmailing the judiciary to secure a favorable judgment in its appeal pending before the Supreme Court.
The petition, titled “Rule of Law Shall Prevail,” highlighted the NNPP-led government’s demolition of properties worth billions of Naira without due process, alleging that this was part of a coordinated plot to silence the opposition and incite violence.
The APC group urged the UN to investigate the matter and call the Kano State Government to order, emphasizing the need to prevent chaos and disorder in the state.
They also expressed concern about the NNPP’s attempts to pressure the international community to intervene in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“We are here to tell the UN that they should not be carried away by the activities of the NNPP government in Kano. Nigeria is a sovereign Nation with laws and regulations. It has a Constitution and electoral laws,” the petition stated.
The APC group reiterated their belief in democracy and expressed confidence in the Nigerian judiciary, urging the UN to allow the courts to exercise their independence and make decisions based on the rule of law.
They also cautioned against the NNPP’s alleged recruitment of thugs to cause violence if they do not get their desired outcome.
