FG to complete Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway before Christmas – Otti
The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, on Tuesday, disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to completing the rehabilitation of the Aba-Port Harcourt stretch of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway before Christmas.
The Governor shared this information during an inspection tour of the road, which has deteriorated and become difficult to traverse.
The bad condition of the road has forced travelers to resort to unconventional means, such as using motorcycles through bush paths, to travel from Aba to Port Harcourt.
Otti revealed that a team from the Federal Government joined him for an inspection of the highway, emphasizing that the use of bush paths for travel between Aba and Port Harcourt would soon be a thing of the past.
“I went to inspect the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway from here all the way to the border town of Obigbo. The promise the federal government made to me was that this road must be rehabilitated and made ready for Christmas. As a result, anyone wishing to go to Port Harcourt when that is done will no longer travel through bush paths, which leads to Etche in Imo state. From Christmas, you will be able to access Port Harcourt straight from Aba without using bush paths,” stated Otti.
Expressing his satisfaction with the ongoing rehabilitation work, Otti urged the people of the state to strive for excellence in their endeavors, highlighting the positive transformation that Abia State has undergone.
Residents of Aba, who have endured the deplorable state of the Aba-Port Harcourt Road for over five years, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the commitment to fix the road before Christmas.
While acknowledging the promise, they called on the government to fulfill its commitment to the rehabilitation of the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
