Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called upon medical professionals to collaborate with the government in eradicating quackery from the medical field.
He emphasized the crucial role of medical practitioners in safeguarding public health and urged them to assist the government in putting an end to the harmful practices of unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals.
Addressing the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners during the opening ceremony of their National Executive Council meeting in Osogbo on Saturday, Governor Adeleke, represented by his Special Adviser on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, highlighted the immense responsibilities borne by medical doctors in society.
He stressed that any form of quackery or substandard medical practices should not be tolerated within the medical profession.
“As professionals backed by laws and ordinances of your ethics, you have enormous responsibilities, the reach, and the authority to save lives even before the surgical knives in the theatre,” Governor Adeleke stated.
“More often than not, irreparable damages are inflicted upon the bodies of victims of quackery before they are forced to seek your expertise. We must collaborate to bring this menace to an end in our country.”
While acknowledging the challenges faced by medical professionals, Governor Adeleke assured them that his administration is working diligently to address these issues in a comprehensive manner.
He expressed appreciation for the association’s support and dedication to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Osun State.
“I am aware that the challenges you face extend beyond the recent approval of hazard allowances for medical practitioners in the state,” Governor Adeleke remarked.
“We are working on a comprehensive approach to address the challenges you face and ensure that you have the resources and support necessary to fulfill your critical role in safeguarding public health.”
