Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late strike salvaged a 1-1 draw for Liverpool against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, halting City’s pursuit of a record-breaking home winning streak.

Erling Haaland, with his 27th-minute goal, his 50th in the Premier League, had put City in control of the game.

The defending champions appeared on course to extend their remarkable home winning run to 24 games but were stunned by Alexander-Arnold’s late equalizer.

The draw, while not a loss, leaves City ruing missed opportunities and extends their recent trend of conceding late goals.

This result keeps City at the top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of Liverpool, but the title race appears to be getting tighter.

The draw prevents City from equaling the English top-flight record of 24 straight home wins, set by Sunderland in the 1890s. However, they remain one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League standings.

Both teams will now focus on their upcoming UEFA Champions League and Europa League fixtures before returning to Premier League action on Sunday.

Manchester City will host RB Leipzig in the Champions League before facing Tottenham Hotspur, while Liverpool will welcome LASK in the Europa League and then face Fulham at Anfield.

Liverpool’s ability to come from behind and secure a point against City at the Etihad Stadium sends a strong message about their potential this season.

The Merseysiders, despite their revamped midfield, have demonstrated their resilience and ability to compete with the best teams in the league.
