The Lagos State Government has closed down Ajah Market and Ogba City Mall, citing “waste disposal offenses” as the reason for the closure.

This decision was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority.

According to Folashade Kadiri, the Director of Public Affairs at LAWMA, “The Lagos State Government has shut Ogba City Mall, Ikeja, and Ajah Market, Etti-Osa, for sundry waste disposal offenses.”

She noted that this action was carried out by a joint enforcement team consisting of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses, LASTMA, and LAGSEC.

The enforcement team also cleared shanties and illegal trader structures situated around the Ajah BRT corridor and the Ajah Jubilee Bridge on Sunday.

The Lagos State Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, explained that the government is resolute in its campaign against filth and indiscriminate waste disposal by businesses and markets.

He emphasized, “We are stepping up action on this administration’s zero tolerance for filth and reckless waste disposal by traders and business facilities.”

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, also urged all business owners and market operators to embrace responsible waste disposal practices.

“For the umpteenth time, we are encouraging all business owners and the markets, to shun filth and put measures in place, to guarantee responsible waste disposal in their places of operation,” Gbadegesin said.
