Troops from Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State, have apprehended two individuals believed to be involved in the illegal manufacturing of firearms in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area.
OPSH’s Media Officer, Capt. James Oya, confirmed the arrests and the discovery of a makeshift gun factory where newly-manufactured weapons were found.
Oya shared the details of the operation. He identified the suspects as Michael Dung, aged 33, and Yusuf Pam, aged 43.
Both suspects were taken into custody, and their illicit firearms manufacturing operation was dismantled.
Oya stated, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects sell guns to customers in different parts of the country.
“Troops recovered six AK-47 rifles, three skeleton AK-47 rifles, one locally-made pistol, 11 rifle bodies, seven bridge block, and four magazines.
“210 springs, seven rifle butts, eight riffle muzzles, nine piston assembly, five cartridge housings, one drilling machine and a hand filing machine were also recovered from them.
“The suspects will be charged to court immediately after investigations.’’
The primary suspect, Michael Dung, confessed to his involvement in the illegal firearms trade, admitting that he had been in the business for six years.
He explained that he acquired the skills from his now-deceased boss and primarily sold firearms to customers in Mangu, a town in Plateau State.
Dung disclosed that the price of the weapons varied, ranging between N80,000 and N200,000, depending on the type of firearm.
