The Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad in Onitsha arrested 64 suspected touts and one suspected robber in various parts of Onitsha less than twenty-four hours after Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo launched the squad.
Parading the suspects in Onitsha on Tuesday, the SASA Director of Operations, Mr Solomon Onwuemene, explained that the squad began its operations immediately after being inaugurated by Governor Soludo.
Mr. Onwuemene noted that the suspects were apprehended at Upper Iweka, Bridge Head, and Chisco Motor Park.
He emphasised that the squad’s mission is to make Onitsha and other cities in the state uncomfortable for touts and individuals involved in criminal activities in Anambra.
He also underlined the squad’s determination to eliminate all forms of social vices in the state and encouraged those involved in touting to engage in productive activities by aligning themselves with Governor Soludo’s youth-oriented policies and programmes.
Mr. Onwuemene mentioned that all those arrested would be tried according to the law, serving as a deterrent to others.
Governor Soludo launched the Anambra Special Anti-Touting Squad on Monday at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, to combat criminal activities in the commercial city of the state and beyond.
