Security agencies seal off Ondo PDP secretariat
The State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akure, Ondo State, was allegedly sealed off by security agencies, leading to a heavy presence of armed security personnel at the entrance on Monday morning.
The security personnel included officers from the state police command and the Directorate of State Security.
The police deployment was reportedly in anticipation of a planned protest by PDP youths regarding the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from the state. This protest was scheduled for today.
Efforts to obtain comments from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
The sealing of the secretariat comes amid tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition PDP in Ondo State.
The APC accused the PDP of planning to instigate a crisis to create political instability in the state ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Alex Kalejaye, alleged that some PDP leaders had entered into an “unholy alliance” with elements in the APC to foment avoidable crisis in Ondo State.
The APC claimed that Governor Akeredolu had been discharging his duties without hindrance despite his absence.
In response, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Kennedy Peretei, denied the allegations, stating that the APC was populated by “shameless people” and that the governor’s absence had led to the collapse of governance in the state.
Peretei asserted that the PDP was known for its peaceful and developmental strides and had no intention of creating a crisis.
Peretei also challenged the APC to reveal Governor Akeredolu’s whereabouts and urged him to return or resign.
