Boniface wins second Bundesliga’s monthly rookie award
Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has continued his impressive start to the Bundesliga season, winning his second Rookie of the Month award in September.
The 22-year-old scored two goals and provided three assists in four appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in September, helping the Werkself to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Boniface beat off competition from RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier to win the award.
He is the first player since Erling Haaland in 2020 to win both the Rookie and Player of the Month awards in the same month.
Boniface’s form has also caught the attention of the Nigerian national team, and he made his debut for the Super Eagles in September’s AFCON qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe.
He also started in Nigeria’s recent friendly match against Saudi Arabia.
Boniface’s move to Bayer Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer has been a huge success so far.
The goal poacher has scored nine goals and provided three assists in just 10 games in all competitions.
The Nigerian international is one of the most exciting young talents in the Bundesliga, and currently playing key role for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen this season.
