The Association of Nursery and Primary Education Instructors in Nigeria has urged both the federal and state governments to promptly enhance the welfare packages for teachers.
The call was made by Mr. Sunday Fowowe, the National President of ANPEIN, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos, as part of the World Teachers’ Day celebration.
World Teachers’ Day is commemorated globally on October 5th each year to express appreciation to teachers and educators.
This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme is: “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage.”
Fowowe emphasised the urgency of an improved welfare package by the current administration for teachers, citing its potential to uplift teacher morale and enhance the education system.
“A reformed education system starts with investing in our teachers, equipping them to motivate, innovate, and ignite the flames of curiosity in our students’ hearts.”
“Today is a significant reminder of the immense role teachers play in shaping our society, our future, and, most importantly, our children’s lives.”
“Without a doubt, education is the foundation of a nation’s progress, and teachers are the builders of this foundation. They mold the minds of the next generation, imparting knowledge, values, and the skills required to navigate the intricate world that lies ahead.”
Fowowe highlighted that this year’s theme underscores the profound influence teachers have not only in imparting knowledge but also in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in their students.
Fowowe also pointed out several key areas where educational transformation starts with teachers.
“Teachers are at the forefront of innovative teaching methods, adapting to the ever-evolving educational landscape, integrating technology and modern teaching techniques to engage and inspire students. They have a pivotal role in promoting inclusivity and embracing diversity within the classroom.”
“Continual learning is crucial for teachers to stay updated with the latest educational trends. It is imperative that we support and invest in the professional development of our educators.”
“Teachers are not isolated individuals but integral members of the community, and encouraging teacher-parent-community partnerships is essential for the holistic development of our students.”
The Association of Nursery and Primary Education Instructors in Nigeria hopes that its call for improved welfare for teachers will be heeded by government authorities, recognizing the invaluable contribution of teachers to the nation’s educational system and overall development.
