The National Youth Service Corps has successfully rescued three out of the eight prospective corps members who were kidnapped in Zamfara State while en route to the Orientation Camp in Sokoto.

The incident, which occurred on August 17, left the corps members in captivity for over 36 days.

NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, conveyed the statement from the Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, emphasized the concerted efforts being made to secure the release of the remaining five abductees.

Brigadier General Ahmed stated, “We are making efforts to see that we get the children out of captivity. From all the signs we are receiving, we are hopeful we will get them as soon as possible.”

The NYSC management has been actively collaborating with various stakeholders, including the Zamfara State government, traditional leaders, and religious figures, to ensure the safe return of the abducted prospective corps members.

Brigadier General Ahmed stressed the importance of information sharing, saying, “We have full synergy between the agencies. All these things they work together. The only problem is information. Once information is out, we will have a seamless situation.”

The released corps members have been redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory and provided with necessary medical attention.

Meanwhile, security agencies continue to work closely with traditional and religious leaders to secure the release of the remaining abductees.

During an interactive session with the House Committee on Youth, led by Hon. Martin Esin, Brigadier General Ahmed presented a comprehensive report, including pictorial evidence of his engagements with various stakeholders in Zamfara State.

He reiterated that the safety and well-being of all corps members remain a top priority for the NYSC.

Chairman Esin praised the director-general for his dedication in ensuring the freedom of the kidnapped corps members and pledged the committee’s support for legislative measures that would further enhance the NYSC’s accomplishments in the post-jubilee era.

He also commended the NYSC’s efforts in reopening the Borno State Orientation Camp for corps members following its extended closure.
