NSCDC arrests seven suspects over energy theft, N13m fraud



The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Osun Command has apprehended six suspects for alleged energy theft, in addition to one individual arrested for a N13 million fraud scheme.

This significant development was confirmed in a statement by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kehinde Adeleke, in Osogbo.

The suspects were nabbed during a joint operation conducted by the NSCDC and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, as disclosed by the NSCDC’s state commandant, Mr. Sunday Agboola. The operation took place in the Ota-Efun area of Osogbo.

Agboola stated that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the energy theft, shedding light on the serious nature of their actions.

He urged the public to collaborate with the command in safeguarding critical national assets within their communities by reporting any suspicious activities of vandals to the NSCDC.

In a separate incident, the command also arrested a 40-year-old suspect named Sodiq Ayanleye for an alleged N13 million fraud.

Ayanleye purportedly collected the sum from a victim, promising to facilitate the purchase of five plots of land in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The NSCDC’s state commandant highlighted that obtaining money under false pretense constitutes a violation of section 419 of the criminal code of conduct and section one of the advanced fee fraud and other related offences act of 2006.

Assuring the public of swift and just action, he affirmed that the suspects would be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
