VIDEO: Drama as Obasanjo scores two goals in novelty match to mark 85th birthday
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the hero of the day after he netted two goals in a novelty football match put in place to celebrate his 85th birthday on Friday.
The match, which attracted huge spectators, was played at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Dressed in a yellow jersey and short, the celebrant who was the captain of the OOPL team filed out against the Ogun State Government team led by the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
Against the run of play, Obasanjo scored two of his team’s four goals to defeat Team Ogun, which could only manage two goals.
Spectators watched as ‘Baba’ showed a glimpse of his youthful self with mesmerising moves and dazzling run, which received rapturous applause at intervals.
Speaking to newsmen after the match, the octogenarian appreciated God for full fitness in spite of his age.
The former President also advised Nigerians, especially the elders, to inculcate what he tagged DREMS – Diet, Rest, Exercise, Medical examination and Social interactions.
