A 35-year-old man, Kabiru Eniola, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ court in Osun State for alleged N300,000 fraud.

Eniola, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Rasaki Olaiyiwola, told the court that the defendant committed the offense in July 2019, at Balogun Biro area, Osogbo.

Olaiyiwola said the defendant converted the sum of N300,000, belonging to one Adeola Shakirat, to personal use after a failed business transaction.

He said the defendant, on several occasions, promised to refund the money to the complainant but failed to do so until the case was brought to court.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened sections 390 (9) and 421 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11, laws of Osun, 2002.

The defense counsel, Mr Kazeem Suleiman, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The magistrate, Mr Asimiyu Adebayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and one surety.

Adebayo said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, with evidence of tax payment and passport photograph, attached with an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned until Nov.18 for mention.
