N1.8trn debt: We’ve not received notification from FIRS – Multichoice
Pay television service provider, Multichoice Nigeria, on Thursday, expressed shock at the report that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has appointed some commercial banks to recover the sum of N1.8 trillion from its management.
WuzupNigeria reported earlier that the FIRS Chairman, Muhammad Nami, accused MultiChoice of persistently breaching agreements and undertakings, forcing the federal government to engaged some commercial banks as agents to help recover the sum of N1.8 trillion from accounts of MultiChoice Nigeria Limited (MCN) And MultiChoice Africa (MCA).
The Broadcasting company says FIRS did not serve Multichoice any notification to that effect but pledged that it was ready to work with the Federal Government to clarify issues on tax compliance.
“We have read the media reports and the statements made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
“MultiChoice Nigeria has not received any notification from FIRS. MultiChoice Nigeria respects and is comfortable that it complies with the tax laws of Nigeria.
“We have been and are currently in discussion with FIRS regarding their concerns and believe that we will be able to resolve the matter amicably,” the statement read.
