EURO 2020: Italy edge Austria 2-1 after dramatic extra time
Italy qualified for the quarter-finals of the EURO 2020 competition after edging Austria 2-1 in a dramatic extra-time battle following a goalless draw in regular time.
Austria gave the Italians a run for their money as Immobile hit the post in the first half.
Arnautovic had a goal ruled out in the second half, but the game came to life in extra time, Pool reports.
Just five minutes in, Chiesa broke the deadlock as he volleyed in from a tight angle and the other substitute Pessina added a second on the stroke of half-time.
Austria kept fighting and pulled one back with Kalajdzic’s header from a corner, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Roberto Mancini’s side will face either defending champions Portugal or Belgium in the last eight in Munich on July 2.
