The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has told Nigerians still using Twitter that they would find out the law they violated when they get to court.

This was disclosed by Malami’s spokesperson, Umar Gwandu, in a chat with Premium Times after the AGF ordered the immediate prosecution of persons who still use Twitter despite the Federal Government’s ban.

WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the AGF ordered the “Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government De-activation of operations of Twitter in Nigeria.”

Although the statement did not disclose the specific law being violated for using Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access Twitter, Gwandu revealed that “the alleged violators would get to know in court”.

“We will invite journalists at the time of prosecution, and they will know which laws are used to prosecute. The point is Twitter has been banned. Anybody should not try to use Twitter.

“At the time we are gathering them and assembling them in court, they will get to know which law they are violating. The government has banned Twitter and anybody who uses it will be penalised. The point is they violated the ban. They are violating the federal government laws.”
