JUST IN: Residents flee as gunshots, explosion rock Maiduguri
There was pandemonium in Maiduguri, Borno State capital on Tuesday evening following an explosion and exchange of gunshots allegedly between soldiers and suspected insurgents.
Residents reported hearing exchange of gunfire which reverberated intermittently amidst deafening sound around the Jiddari Polo area at about 5:55 pm.
Daily Trust quoted a source as confirming that there was an ongoing gun duel between troops and rampaging insurgents around Molai and Jiddari in the state capital.
“At least 3 loud explosions were heard in Maiduguri. Heavy shooting ongoing now, civilian are fleeing their homes running toward Damboa and old GRA,” the source said.
