Tatiana Akhmedova, the former wife of a Russian billionaire, has won Britain’s biggest divorce settlement after the High Court awarded her the sum of £453m today.
The Sun UK reports that Akhmedova was awarded the sum by a judge who found that her former husband and his son plotted to hide the huge fortune.
The ruling comes after Akhmedova was awarded a 41.5 per cent share of Mr Akhmedov’s £1bn-plus fortune by another British judge in late 2016.
Akhmedova won the enormous sum due to the “formidable smokescreen” created to conceal assets by their 27-year-old son, Temur Akhmedova, who was accused of acting as his dad’s “lieutenant” in the legal scrap.
The divorce battle, which began five years ago, according to the publication, is Britain’s most expensive divorce case ever.
The London-based Russian, Akhmedova, had accused her son of helping his father, Farkhad Akhmedova to hide assets, and owed her nearly £70m but Temur said his mother’s claim against him should be dismissed.
It is reported that the mum-of-two had already successfully sued her son to get more than £70m and a £5m property in Moscow as the family broke apart.
Farkhad Akhmedova is reportedly worth £900m and during their marriage, they enjoyed a lavish lifestyle – splitting time between a £39m mansion in Surrey and a £27.8m holiday home.
While Farkhad argued that “Today’s judgement and the continued presence of Burford in a matrimonial matter is beneath contempt and changes nothing,”
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the couple’s son said he only got involved to stop the “war between his parents”, adding: “Like millions of young people, Temur has been caught up in the break-up of his parents’ marriage.
“While he fundamentally disagrees with this judgment, he would consider it a price worth paying should it lead to a reasonable settlement between the parents he both loves.”
