Peter, the brother of former Super Eagles forward, John Utaka has grabbed a hat-trick in the Japanese League 2 to lead Kyoto Sanga to a 6-1 mauling of Giravanz Kitakyushu on Saturday
The 37-year-old has continued to defy logic, and show age is but a number, every time he turns up in Kyoto’s colours.
The player scored his first two goals before the half-hour mark and added a third early in the second half as Kyoto outran and outclassed the visitors at the Sanga Stadium in Kameoka.
A former Odense player, Utaka’s hat trick shoots him up to the top of the scorer’s chart with seven goals.
According to Score Nigeria, the striker had garnered 22 goals to win the top scorer’s award last season and most significantly, he led the scorers’ chart from start to finish and it appears he might repeat his feat this season.
Interestingly, Utaka also became the first African to emerge top scorer both in J-League 1 and J-League 2 as he continues to paint his Japanese adventure in glory.
The 37-year old hit man is now expected to land Kyoto the J-League 1 promotion ticket they missed for the past two seasons.
Recall that Utaka had earlier emerged top scorer in Belgium and Denmark.
