The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors on Saturday night disclosed that the 10-day old nationwide strike was suspended on compassionate ground.

Speaking exclusively with WuzupNigeria, NARD president, Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi told our correspondent that the decision was taken following appeals from Nigerians to consider the plights of hapless patients.

He, however, warned that the strike would resume in another four weeks if the Federal Government fails to meet up with NARD’s demand.

“We suspended the strike till four weeks time because of the plights of Nigerians. Unless the government meets our demands, the strike will continue after then,” he stated.

Recall that the resident doctors commenced its strike on April 1 to protest the non-payment of house officers, non-recruitment of House officers, abolishment of Bench fees and non-payment of national minimum wage consequential adjustment arrears.

Other issues raised were residency training allowance, hazard allowance and payment of Resident Doctors on the platform of Government Integrated Financial Management Information System.
