I told my daughter the truth about LEKKI shooting – Sanwo-Olu’s aide
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile, has opened up on the 20 October 2020 shooting at Lekki Roundabout.
Akosile’s revelation comes after the United States Department of State released a report stating that it could not verify that any protester died at the Lekkk Toll Gate dive months ago.
Recall that although a non-governmental organisation, Amnesty International, reported that at least 10 protesters were killed by soldiers, the Nigerian government denied the claims.
However, the US DoS’ report titled ‘2020 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Nigeria’ which dropped this weeks stirred mixed reactions on Twitter, leading to the trending hashtag, #LekkiLies, in Nigeria.
Jumping on the trend, Akosile revealed that he was forced to tell the truth about the event after his daughter challenged him on the alleged massacre.
Akosile made the disclosure to his 27.5 thousand followers on Twitter.
He tweeted, “A trying time. An opportunity to know true friends, family, colleagues etc. My daughter stood up to me, to ask a direct question, “dad, tell me the truth! Painfully, I told her “if I lie to other ppl in the world, I won’t lie to you.” She believed me. That was enough. #LEKKILIES.”
Recall that Akosile’s principal, Sanwo-Olu, was heavily criticised on social media following the alleged action of the soldiers on the protesters.
